EAST RIVER PARK- The Straayers Players overcame an early 1-0 deficit and won their first game in the 2005 NYU Intramurals Softball single-elimination tournament, 9-2. As was the case last year, the Cinema Studies defense was stellar and made the necessary plays to get out of some tough innings. Because we did not keep score, no indivial statistical information exists.
But generally, the Players struggled in the early innings but managed to tie the game in the third inning, and take the lead in the fourth, and broke it open in the fifth. The Blue Sox scored early after a triple and a RBI-groundout. They rallied in the seventh with two doubles but could ultimately score only one more run. The game ended when third-baseman Matt Hauske threw out infielder Mike Anderson, who was loaned to the Blue Sox, after falling on his behind and throwing from the seated position.
With this win, the Straayers Players live to play another game and have eliminated the Blue Sox, who won last week against We're Huge in Japan.
