EAST RIVER PARK- The Straayers Playaz began their fifth season with a come from behind win early this morning, beating Schnitzel 13-10, and building a little two-game winning streak, dating back to last year.

Both veterans and rookies rose to the challenge of not only getting to a 9:30 AM game but also combined for 21 hits and 13 runs. Leading the offense was outfielder Derek Kane-Meddock, who went 3-for-4 and scoring three runs, and rookie extra-hitter Rob Levin, collecting four hits in four at-bats. Also contributing with their bats were outfielder Dave Wexler (two hits, a walk, and two RBI) and first-baseman Charley Leary (one double, one triple, and one RBI).

According to the Schnitzel manager, their team is comprised mostly of former players from the Blue Sox, the team Cinema Studies defeated in their only game last year.

The Playaz started the game with some strong hitting, scoring six runs in the first inning. Pitcher Juan Monroy capped off that scoring drive with a three-run home run that put the Playaz comfortably ahead early in the game.

The pitching and defense, the strong suit for the Playaz the last two years, faltered a bit in the early going. Schnitzel pressured the Playaz in every inning, loading the bases several times throughout the game, and scoring one run in each of the first two innings. However, Schnitzel managed to charge ahead in the bottom of the third, scoring seven runs to lead Cinema Studies 9-6.

The Playaz did not stand pat and immediately took the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs. Schnitzel got one back in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 10-10. The Playaz took the lead for good on an RBI double by the Cinema Studies Keystone Nicole Baer in the fifth inning. Dan Hanamura followed with another RBI in the sixth inning and Rob Levin drove in Cinema Studies's thirteenth run in the seventh.

Schnitzel went quietly in the bottom half of the seventh for their only one-two-three inning.

With the win, Cinema Studies is spared from having to play a morning game next week and instead will next play at 2:00 PM next Sunday. The opponent is scheduled to be the loser of today's 12:30 PM game between 8B Fluskies and We're Huge Japan.
